StatSheet's NEC Player of the Week for February 25th goes to Robert Morris's Russell Johnson. Shivaughn Wiggins from Mount St. Mary's has won StatSheet's NEC Freshman of the Week. Also, Shaq Shannon from Quinnipiac is StatSheet's NEC 6th Man of the Week. Johnson put up respectable numbers with 3 assists per game, 15 points per game, and 9 rebounds per game. The Robert Morris senior played well in wins versus Monmouth and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Johnson led all scoring and rebounding for the Colonials with 20 points and 7 rebounds in a 77-65 win over Monmouth. He followed that up by leading the team in rebounding with 11 and an additional 5 assists in a huge 89-46 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
This is the first time this season that Russell Johnson has been named StatSheet NEC Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Lucky Jones, a sophomore from Robert Morris. Honorable mention goes to sophomore Ike Azotam from Quinnipiac. The highest ranking player from Long Island was C.J. Garner who finished sixth.
StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week: Mount St. Mary's's Shivaughn Wiggins
Shivaughn Wiggins played an average of 35 minutes starting both games for Mount St. Mary's. He led all NEC freshmen in free throws (5.5 per game). In an 83-71 win over Long Island, Wiggins tallied 13 points and 4 rebounds. In a 73-65 win over St. Francis (NY), he added 11 points and 3 assists.
Amazingly, Shivaughn Wiggins has won the StatSheet NEC Freshman of the Week 3 times. Ben Millaud-Meunier from St. Francis (PA) gets runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Brandon Peel from Central Connecticut State.
StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week: Quinnipiac's Shaq Shannon
Shaq Shannon, a junior and a 6-1 guard, averaged 29 minutes of action over two games for the Bobcats. In an 81-74 win against Sacred Heart, Shannon added 11 points and 4 rebounds. Then in a 69-58 victory against Bryant, he led all scoring with 16 points and added 7 assists.
This is the second time this season that Shaq Shannon has won the StatSheet NEC 6th Man of the Week. Ousmane Drame, a sophomore forward from Quinnipiac, is runner up. Travis Nichols, a senior forward from St. Francis (NY), receives honorable mention. Long Island players have been named StatSheet NEC Player of the Week once this season.
